Water
One of the main concerns since Joybells has been at Dehradun has been the lack of water. The local supply amounted to little more than a trickle and it is very expensive to buy in fresh water, so in 2008 work began to construct large water tanks that would store rain water harvested from the monsoon, these are now complete. In May of 2009, one last attempt was made to drill for water on a piece of land owned by Joybells about a mile from the school. Wonderfully, water was discovered! We now have a bore that is capable of producing at least 10,000 litres per hour of fresh, drinking quality water. We still have to transport it to Joybells and make the area secure, but the anxiety of running out of water has been lifted. It is possible we could generate a small amount of income by selling some of the water as well as being a resource for the whole village.
