Our November Visit to Joybells
It was great to be back at Joybells for a week at the beginning of November. The progress that has been made on the buildings is great to see although there is still a lot to be done to finish all the work. This is mainly in the areas of plumbing, electrical fittings, decorating and generally equipping the buildings. We are in the process of making financial assessments of how much will be needed to see each particular part of the work finished.
The fact that there is now a constant supply of water available has made a huge difference but Joy is still waiting for various permissions to be granted that would make life easier for all the staff. For example a licence is needed to use bottled gas for cooking. She has now been waiting for the licence for three years!
The current team of volunteers are doing an incredible job – led by Helen O’Sullivan – who will be sadly missed when she returns to the UK in December. We realise what a need there is for qualified teachers who are perhaps able to volunteer for a year, rather than a few months, in order to give continuity to the children’s education.
